Baby Nursery Air Purifiers
Nursery Air Purifiers - What are the Advantages?
If you have the money in your nursery budget, you may want to consider investing in a nursery air purifier. An air purifier in the baby’s room has several advantages. The number one advantage of course being that it is a great idea to clean and purify the air in the room where your baby will likely be spending a great deal of their time. A good air purifier will remove dust, pet dander, mold spores, and other allergens from the air making it much easier on a baby’s developing lungs.
The second advantage of an air purifier is that it can provide white noise which some babies find calming. I personally like the whole white noise factor because it drowns out outside noise while my son is sleeping. I know if someone comes to the door while he is napping, he won’t be woken by the doorbell or the dogs barking.
So what should you look for in an air purifier? Well, I am no expert when it comes to air purifiers but I think in this case, it may be a matter of you get what you pay for. A $30 air purifier is not likely to work as efficiently as $200 air purifier but if a $30 air purifier is all you can afford then a $30 air purifier is certainly better than no air purifier. I suggest reading some reviews written by others about how they like their air purifiers.
I personally have two Oreck XL professional air purifiers in my home…one in my son’s room and one in our kitchen/great room area. We have owned both of them for over a year and they both still work great. My husband and I were immediately impressed with the amount of dust and dirt that we clean out of the machines on a weekly basis. Another thing I like is how clean my son’s room smells for the first few days after I clean his machine. It reminds of the smell of the air on a cool, spring morning (sounds kind of corny but that is the best way I can think to describe the freshness.) There has also been a noticeable decrease in his asthma attacks and cases of the sniffles since we put the air purifier in his room. May be just a coincidence but I really think there is a relation here especially when I see how much dirt I wash out of the filter every week.
My suggestion if you are going to buy an air purifier for your baby’s nursery is to buy it at least a couple months before your baby arrives. This will allow you to run it for several weeks before the baby will be using the room and it can be helpful in removing odors and particles created from freshly painted walls or newly installed rugs or carpet.
A Few Nursery Air Purifier Q’s and A’s
Q: So where to look for an air purifier?
A: They are sold just about everywhere from retail stores to online merchants.
Q: How much do they cost?
A: Anywhere from $20 into the $100s depending on the brand and model you choose.
Q: What’s an ionic air purifier?
A: An ionic air purifier is one that generates large amounts of negative ions. Since most dust, allergens, and other harmful particles in the air are positive ions, the negative ions generated by the air purifier can then attach to the positive ions, neutralizing them and removing them from the air.
Q: Are there any air purifiers made specifically for baby nurseries?
There are some models specifically designed for nurseries. Among them are the Bebe Sounds Nursery Air Purifier which sells for about $40. This air purifier uses negative ions to clean the air and is meant for rooms up to 200 square feet. Another nursery air purifier model is the which costs about $90. It also uses ionic (negative ion) technology to remove particles and is good for rooms between 200 and 300 square feet.
