More Baby Nursery Design Essentials

Here are more essentials you may want to complete your baby nursery design:

Clothes hamper: helpful to have in the baby nursery to avoid numerous trips to the laundry room everyday. Babies do go through several outfits a day, especially at first. The best location for the hamper will be next to or near your changing table, if you have one. You should be able to find a large selection of baby hampers to choose from and may even be able to find one that matches your theme.

Diaper pail or Diaper Genie: although not necessary, they can be convenient to have especially if you live in an apartment. This is another item that you will want to place near the changing table for easy access when you need it.

Diaper Stacker: this item also isn’t necessary to your baby nursery design, especially if you have a changing table where you can store your diapers. But by purchasing one you could free up that space under the changing table for storing other items. Diaper stackers can often be found to match your bedding or theme.

Mobiles: like the Fisher-Price: Rainforest Motion and Music Mobile for the crib or changing table: A mobile is a great addition to the baby nursery design. It provides the baby with some stimulation while at the same time providing music that can be calming to a fussy baby. There is a large selection of baby mobiles to choose from and again you can usually find one that matches your nursery’s theme or bedding. You can place the mobile above the crib or the changing table or in both places if you wish.

Sleep Soothers: Sleep soothers can be a blessing especially if you have a fussy baby. They come in many forms including devices that attach to the crib and make it vibrate or small music players that attach to the crib and play soothing music. My personal favorite though is the Mommy Bear. This is a bear with a device inside of it that simulates the sounds of the womb. My mom bought one for my son when he was born and my husband and I refused to leave the house without it his first few months because it worked so well at soothing him and putting him to sleep when he was fussy.

Crib Toys: Another baby nursery design element that involves the crib, crib toys provide the baby with something to occupy and stimulate them. My son had Fisher Price's Ocean Wonders Aquarium in his crib. It had swimming fish, lights, and music and ocean sounds so it's really great for all their senses.

Air purifiers: Air purifiers aren’t necessary but if you have room in your budget for one, I recommend that you get one. They remove allergens like dander, pollens, and dust from the air making it much cleaner for the baby to breath. I noticed my son has had less stuffy noses since we put one in his room and you can smell the freshness of the air in his room especially for the first few days after I clean the machine.

Humidifiers and Vaporizers: These are great to have in the nursery. They come in handy for putting moisture in the air especially during the dry winter months and are great to have when the baby gets a cold or stuffy nose. The humidifier puts cool moisture in the air, the vaporizer uses steam. If you don’t have a safe location to put it that the baby won’t be able to reach when they start crawling and walking, a humidifier is a better bet than a vaporizer because the vaporizer can get very hot.

Activity Gyms and Play Mats: Activity gyms and play mats provide additional stimulation for the baby. They can be set up on the floor and then the baby is placed under it. Toys hang down encouraging the baby to play and interact.

Growth Charts: Growth charts are a great addition to the baby nursery design plan. It's a fun way to keep track of their growth and is a nice addition to the nursery’s walls. There are a wide variety of them available and you may even be able to find one that matches the theme of your room.

Piggy Banks: What's a nursery without a cute piggy bank? I always throw my loss change into my son's when I clean out my purse. It's a great way to start saving for college.

Wipes Warmer: Before my son was born, I thought that a wipe's warmer was an unnecessary frill but once he was born, he hated the cold wipes so much on his little behind, that I sent my husband to the store to get one. Diaper changing became a much happier experience for him once we starting warming the wipes!
